Mystery Solved (we think)

October 7, 2007

Grey has had some mystery illness for going on two weeks. It started with a simple cough, finally after a week it turned into a cough with snot, then a few days later we got goopy eyes and extreme fever. Fever lasted a couple of days ranging from 101 – 105 then fever broke and up pops a rash. Now he’s been on antibiotics for six days and side effects do include a fever and rash in 10-15% of the pop., but after talking to the on call Dr. at the hospital we have decided that it must be Roseola.  Apparently this is a common childhood virus and the rash is the last to come before it goes away. It was contagious during the fever but incubates for 10 days so lets see if Gentry pops up with it. Only problem is that he has now had antibiotics for no reason, but we still have to finish the round to make sure that when he really needs them they are still effective. UGH! Here are some pics, but it is impossibly hard to take pics of a rash.
We also got the boys costumes yesterday. Grey is going to be a gorilla and I’m going to borrow a Barbie doll for him to carry around, think King Kong.

Oh, I forgot, Mattie had an allergic reaction to antibiotics one time. She had that rash. You might ask Mandi about it.

It is hard to tell from a picture. I have seen both measles and rash from allergy to antibiotics. Normally with the allergic reaction, I think it pops up pretty quickly after taking the antibiotic. Time will tell and in any case he should be just about through with it in any case. Sorry you guys have had such a rough time. The costume is really cute.

Ya, I’m pretty pissed off that the last two times we’ve been to the Dr. the NP has seen Grey instead and she hasn’t picked up on any of this and just threw antibiotics at it. Plus I really think it’s measles and not roseola. Just my gut.
