Campouts, church, & champagne

Micah and Grey had a campout in the living room this weekend. Grey was so thrilled by the idea that he talked about it for days. They ate popcorn and watched Lightning “the” Queen and then slept all night in the tent. It was just the most precious thing, and Gentry thought the air matress was pretty groovy as well.

Then Saturday Micah did a test run for his triathalon this coming weekend, we just hung out for the middle of the day and headed to church in the evening. Micah was working in the nursery so I sat with some friends of mine, that was probably a mistake. It ended up being a really emotional service for me, they showed a video of a lot of people getting baptized ( I almost always cry during baptisms) it was especially hard to watch because Fred was in the video and he’s the one who was there when I baptized Micah. It was also the service that announced the news that Fred is taking another preaching job in NC. I know this is what’s best for them, but it’s not what’s best for me (and isn’t that who were concerned about here?). I thought I was being fairly sly and hiding my tears but when I turned around to leave Jen was staring at me. So I guess I’ll get over it and just have to plan a few trips to NC.

Sunday I headed to Cincinnati with Laura to pick up her wedding dress. It was in one of those fancy schmancy shops where they serve you champangne and act all snobby, but that’s what made it fun. She looked absolutely stunning in her dress….Brock, you are a lucky man! I wanted to take pics but I was afraid that Brock would sneak on here and look.

Then last night we had the neighbors over for dinner, we made lasagne with Micah’s homemade cheese, some tomatoes another neighbor gave us, and my homemade pasta…for all that work, it was okay. I wanted it to be a lot better. Oh, well here’s to the start of a new week.

Thanks for making the air mattress so cozy. It was a lot of fun.

Micah, good luck on the triathlon and let me know how we did. (We meaning, I’m afraid I’m going to have to live any athletic achievements vicariously through you.) So let’s go out there and give it all we’ve got.

Somebody pass the remote and that bag of potato chips.

Darrel: Thanks, Sir. What a great father-in-law! I can’t wait to hang out with you all this Thanksgiving. I really do miss you all. I’ll be sure to paint “DARREL” on my chest and back so you can see who to catch and who you passed. Just wait until you get to hang out with Grey. You’ll get to ask him to pass you the remote and potato chips. I do it all the time=)
Susan: Thanks for the encouragement. I certainly try, but I fail quite a bit more than I want to… Campouts are easy cheesy, though. You know me well enough to know that I was looking forward to the campout more than Grey was… Now I just need an excuse to go burn ants with a magnifying glass… “Grey!?!”

You know, it seems like it’s never just one thing that happens at a time. There is always at least three things happening at once. Our prayers are defintely with Logan and his family. No human understanding will ever understand why.
Micah, your advice to me last week got me through. Just keep going back…that won’t tell you not to! It works! I made some amazing mistakes last week and still managed an A on my Chemistry exam. Just keep looking for that balance. It’s what keeps us sane.
I know that you will have a great time at the marathon and I bet you’ll have great “time” too. Can’t wait to hear about it.

Glad to hear it, Vicki. You can only give 100%, that should be good enough. Plus, not that you need to hear this, but I had to come to the realization that He’s in control of everything, school, too.
