still awake…
Even though I should be in bed, I’m awake watching one of my fav. shows…Ace of Cakes. Along with the constant twitter of my brain to figure out something creative that I can do in my house that doesn’t take much space, that can be picked up when I have a spare min. or two, that doesn’t require Micah to watch the kids, & lastly that I can do for at least enough profit to pay for itself…got any ideas???
Let me just tell you what doesn’t work
cakes…10hrs (at least) per cake with no possibility of stopping once I’ve started
jewelry…love it but again good beads are super expensive, and I lack the knowledge of fine design
quilts…lots of fun,but good fabric is between $8-$16/yd. plus lots of time
painting…very messy, horribly hard to do with sticky fingers running around, and again hours upon hours of work
clothing…love it, but hell can’t follow a patter for crud.
pottery…don’t have a wheel, sold my kiln, no place to throw
So there you have it, I leave this delima to you…for my mental health, I need something to do.
Housewives don\'t have to be boring 
Ami, Why not write a book! You could write poetry or prose. I don’t really know of a way you can make money at it but it doesn’t cost anything to do it. And who knows, maybe later on you could make money. I could see you doing a newspaper column, a magazine article (how about an article for a magazine about some of your work – quilting or cakes) and there are on-line companies who have contests for greeting cards etc. Give it a try. Let me know what you think.

Just another thought – what about a cookbook?
To be honest I don’t really love to write. I’m much to visual & tactile to just write. And I’m very ashamed to admit that I have horrific spelling and grammer problems.
Ami–Do you knit or crochet? I crochet and I love it for all the qualities you mentioned needing…it is fast, relatively inexpensive (always a good sale on yarn somewhere), personal, and you can attend or not attend to it whenever you want. I’m sure you know that there are amazing, fabulous yarns now that make beautiful scarves, baby hats, baby blankets, etc. I have had many people tell me I should sell them…..so there you have it. Problem solved 🙂
I know it sounds like I’m being difficult, but I do know how to crochet, just not very well. I’m left handed and can’t learn from books so I have to have someone show me and then mirror them. This would be great if I still lived at home b/c mom can make anything, but she has trouble explaining things over the phone.
You just need to come visit me, because I am a lefty, too! I feel your pain….
Ami, I am surprised about the writing. You are so good at expressing yourself. You wrote such a beautiful poem and you have such a great sense-of-humor. Remember, the grammar and spelling can always be corrected by someone else. Well, at least you blog! (but I know what you mean – it isn’t the same as painting or sculpting)
you could start making t-shirt quilts. Do you know what I am talking about? Google it if you don’t. I want my mom to make me one. I have soooo many t-shirts from college, sorority, vacation, etc. that I won’t wear anymore so I want a keepsake made out of them. Most places that make them charge $200 give or take for a twin bed size or a little bigger. The t-shirts are free to you, you just have to buy backing and border. Market it to college kids and sorority girls who get shirts for every event. Dorky maybe but potentially profitable.

Honestly, Ami would love woodworking because it requires forethought, planning, handiwork, tools, attention to detail, and you can pick it up and put it down pretty easily. And, to boot, it’ll control any anger because if you get pissed or in a hurry, you can lose a finger=)
What lego’s? Sounds dorky, but it’s kinda architectural.
