Call to battle

May 20, 2009 · 5 Comments

I’m still in an odd place where this blog is concerned not knowing if  I really feel like keeping up with it this summer. But…

I got some news yesterday that’s tugged on my heart relentlessly. I found out that an old friend from HS has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. To be more specific it’s an oligoastrocytoma. The funny thing is that about a week ago I was watching the boys play outside when he stumbled into my thoughts and I couldn’t get him out, so I went onto Facebook and looked him up. So yesterday I get and update saying he has started an info page for friends and family about his progress as he nears surgery. I think the way God works is simply amazing, why would I think of someone that I hadn’t talked to in almost a decade?, why couldn’t I get his name out of my mind?, why did my heart break a little when I found out about his tumor?. Maybe because as christians we really are one big army here on Earth to support one another. Maybe I couldn’t get his name out of my head because an angel was was yelling his name, calling to troops to battle. Just recently at our church we were able to witness a real miracle, by watching our whole congregation pray for healing  for a small child and three days later hearing that the doctors could find nothing wrong with him (the test must have been wrong).  I believe we can pray healing into the lives of our family & friends. When my grandad had a lung tumor the deacons of the church prayed over him the night before surgery and when the x-rays the morning before sugery showed no tumor the doctors were amazed.

I think we all have heard of a story similar to this. So let this be my shout to call the troops to battle… “PRAY!!!!” Pray for healing, pray for peace, pray for wisdom for his doctors, pray for his famliy’s strength, pray for absolute recovery. Bryce really is one of those people whose personality and energy has a gravitational pull of it’s own, he has a light that really could change the world. I believe he will get the chance.

I will keep everyone up to date on his progress and I absolutely expect many of you to pray. What I know so far is that on June first they start brain mapping to make sure they don’t injure any parts of his brain that control his speech or memory during surgery and then on June 4 they plan to operate. I set a reminder in my phone for the morning of surgery to pray, imagine if everyone did that, maybe we could fill the room with a thousand angels!

stress

I’m sure just like everyone else I’m in full Easter scramble, but since we are throwing our Passover Party tomorrow, and Grey’s Easter Party at school is this afternoon I’m way behind and typing this when I should be showering.  And so my list of things to do for the next 24 hrs looks something like this:

  • Pick up candy filled eggs for Easter egg hunt (at school)
  • Make fun snack for school party
  • Take Gentry to library story time
  • Go pick up surprise gift for special party guest
  • Pick up 16lbs of lamb from butcher and prep it for tomorrows cooking
  • Make flourless chocolate cake
  • Go to little league meeting
  • Go to yoga
  • Make 20 programs (Haggadahs) for the party
  • Make placecards
  • Buy ribbons, flowers, wine, and shoelaces (for Grey’s dress shoes)
  • Get goody bags ready for the kids
  • Prepare Seder plate

So there you have it, I’m tired just thinking about it. All I really want to do is go get my nails done and tan and see if I still fit in the dress I planned to wear.

Equal Opportunity

March 5, 2009 · 1 Comment

I know I’ve posted countless girl nursery’s and haven’t ever done a boys soooooo I thought I better do one (just in case). Jen was over the other night and we were talking baby stuff and she commented on a cute elephant platter that I’d bought from IKEA and said it would be cute for a boys room. I was looking through my inspiration files for wee ones when I noticed that I’d saved some cute fabric from Paula Prass that coordinated perfectly with the playful pachyderms. So here’s how I would at least start a little boys room.

Alphabet Boyby Paula Prass $126

Here’s her fabric from the Flights of Fancy series and while I don’t like the namesake print (it’s cute just not my style) I love the coordinating fabrics.

These are the elephants that we thought were so cute, I think the set would look really awesome with a few of these embroidered onto the quilt and maybe the bumper.

She’s also got a really cute blog called Show + Tell where you can get ideas, promo codes,  and a sneak peek into her home life. I think she’s got the cutest laundry room ever, I love the paintings of her boys.

Love is in the air

February 13, 2009 · 7 Comments

Tomorrow is definately going to be a “lovely” day (pun intended), and women all across the world will be getting engaged or married. Micah proposed to me on Valentines Day back in 2002…meeeemories (music fades in). In the spirit of that statement I want to make a list, I think what makes an engagement story so special is the the personal detail, so I’m going to take the 3 women I know best, my mom and sisters, and guess what their perfect proposal/ring would be. (Let me know if I’m right guys).

Mom: (Disclaimer: Since I have no idea how my dad proposed this is meant in a sense of fun with no disrespect intended). It would start with a private cabana on a beach around sunset. Sounds; waves crashing, seagulls cawing, deep sigh. Smells; briny ocean air, coconut oil lotion, perfect Italian food (sprinkled with fresh basil). Actions; (Insert perfect speech) down on one knee, presentation of ring. Mom has very strong hands and doesn’t really like “dainty” jewelry, she also wears a lot of color. So I chose something, bright and beautiful.

5 ct. emerald cut yellow sapphire

Tami: Start with a picnic in a beautiful park (no one else around). Lots of pillows and soft quilt to lay on, dogs perched lazily under a nearby tree. Good “drinkable” (as my sister would say) wine, cheese nut fruit platter, soft music. He would hand over a wrapped package that would turn out to be a much wanted book, she would immediately open it, the inside pages would be cut out to hold a ring box. Down on one knee (insert speech), open ring box. My sister claims to not be a traditionalist, but she is, she’s just got a lot of flair. So I chose an Art Deco ring “with a little flair” (Afterwards he would give her an “uncut” copy of previously mentioned book)

2.5 ct cushion diamond with French Rubies

Mandi: I think she would enjoy a surprise trip to New York, to be met at the airport by a limo, then taken to the Ritz where a new (very tiny) dress would be waiting in a box on the bed. She would then be whisked away to the Rainbow room overlooking the city. After dinner and two bottles of champagne her beau would ask her to dance, after the dance was over he would commandeer the band mic, getting the attention of the entire room (insert speech), present ring. *roaring applause*. Knowing that she has never shied away from attention, likes really big jewelry, and prefers to be unique…

13.5 ct asher cut ring

So there you have it. I might be way off the mark, since people do change, but non the less I think I’m close. By the way all the rings are from Fay Cullen, who’s sight I visit frequently. Here’s my favorite ring from their sight.

2 ct. old mine cut diamond surronded by French sapphires

Take a min to brag on your husband and tel me how he proposed (or how you would like your future husband to).

FF.Final

Because I think marriage in general is Faboulous and what better way to start your married life that a fabulous proposal, so I’m using this post as my Fabulous Friday entry at Simply Seleta.

The promos for this show make me laugh out loud everytime I see them, and the only reason I watched W&G was for Megan Mullally.

Vlads new do

February 10, 2009 · 2 Comments

Somehow in the middle of winter, with 2 in. of ice on the ground Vlad got fleas…so he went from a teddy bear to a mohawk. Considering he’s a teenager (in dog years) I think it’s very fitting.
