I just got a new Pottery Barn Kids catalog in the mail and was thrilled to see their new Brooke bedding. It’s so playful and precious and exactly what I would want to have if I were still a little girl. I think all little girls imagine being a fairy at some point or another, living in a magical garden, talking to the flowers and birds. I can just picture laying in this bed and feeling completely transformed….so fun!
PS If they get rid of this bedding before I get a chance to buy it I will cry.

Earlier this month we went to go see Tendai and Karissa’s new baby girl Sarudzia Marie. She was so precious and “squishy” we couldn’t get enough of her. We went to the waterfront in Louisville, had a cookout and let the kids play in the free waterpark.

When we left the waterfront we drove up to Indiana to see an old frat buddy/roommate of ours. He’d just moved back from Philly so we hadn’t seen him in a couple of years. The boys had a great time on the farm and even got to feed the goats.

I’ve obviously been making cake over the past week, but I used the scraps to make a yummy trifle for our bible study Thurs. night. I did use the lamb leg to make some yummy lamb korma, and made some curry chicken.

And believe it or not there’s more, but I’m too tired to keep going…I’m gonna go play cars now.

Well I gotta say I’m relieved that my part of the wedding prep is finished. It was a beautiful ceremony that captured the couples personalities perfectly. I think everyone teared up at one point or another, it was the most heartfelt and joyful wedding I’ve ever been to (other than my own
. You could tell that everyone in the room was there to support them and had no doubt that they would be a sucess. The reception was a lot of fun and I got to see some friends who I haven’t seen in a long time.

I started making the icing for the cake last night and would have finished had I not set a small kitchen fire around 11pm and given up. So during naptime today I decided to finish up the last batch which was the strawberry batch. It turned out amazing! It is the most beautiful shade of pink. If you know me, you know that I never leave any icing in the bowl when I transfer it, and I normally just throw the beater in the sink. Well I “acidentally” left a heaping tablespoon in the bowl, and saved the beater for Mr. Needham. The real trick is going to be keeping him from spreading it on his toast in the morning! Especially considering we have 30 cups sitting is 2gal. bags in the fridge….Mmmmmmm!

We are one week away from Sara and Patch’s wedding so I’m starting to pull together everything for the cake and make my way to the grocery store. I’m a little nervous, even though I’ve known about it since Thanksgiving, and Sara is probably the most laid back bride I’ve ever met. To begin with she just wanted a white cake with vanilla buttercream, just because it was easiest…but I asked her to at least tell me what she dreamed of so I can at least try to give her the best cake possible.
She (and Patch) decided on strawberry buttercream, and the most professional way to do that is dehydrated strawberry powder. On small cakes you can stir in strawberry perserves, but on a wedding cake that will no doubt be on display for hours, theres a fear of the red juice leaking and staining the fondant. So when we heard that a strawberry patch down the road had pick your own berries for $1.99/qt we took the kids out and picked 3 gallons. Lucky for me my wonderful husband has access to super cool machines that can freeze dry anything to -80* or some crazy number so he took the berries in and two days later we had 16 0z. of oraganic Kentucky strawberry powder…SCORE! Normally strawberry powder is $20/2oz. plus shipping.
The cake will match the black and white theme of the wedding. It’s a 6 tier white cake 6″-16″ rounds with black ribbon around the bottom of each tier and some black scroll work drawn on top with royal icing. It will have a small cluster of pink roses on top and she picked out a beautiful silver cake stand from Purdon’s.
